Description

Fig. 3
The NES-859 is a 4.2 mm Kopp elevator built specifically for upper root removal, offering clinicians a compact profile suited to the tighter access and thinner buccal plate typically found in the maxilla. Among our dental root elevators, the Kopp pattern is chosen when a smaller, more maneuverable tip is needed to work around the curvature of upper root anatomy without over engaging surrounding bone.
Maxillary roots often sit in thinner, more porous bone than mandibular roots, which means excess force can fracture the buccal plate rather than simply elevate the tooth. The 4.2 mm tip on this instrument is sized to enter the periodontal ligament space cleanly while giving the operator enough control to apply steady, incremental pressure instead of a single forceful push.
This size and pattern tend to come up in the following situations:
Elevating maxillary anterior and premolar roots ahead of forceps extraction
Working in confined spaces where a larger blade would risk contacting adjacent teeth
Managing upper root fragments where buccal plate thickness is a concern
Providing a controlled starting point in single rooted upper extractions
Complementing wider elevators already used for lower arch procedures
The handle is shaped to support fine directional adjustments, which matters when working through the smaller movements often required in the upper arch. Clinicians who handle a steady volume of maxillary extractions will find the compact profile of the NES-859 well matched to daily use.
