Dental Curette – 204 – NES-1705

Ask most hygienists to name a curette shape from memory, and the 204 pattern is one of the first that comes up. The NES-1705 keeps that familiar, well-worn geometry intact — a double-ended universal blade recognized across dental schools and practices for its balance of reach and control.
Why the 204 pattern has stuck around for so long:
Cutting edges on both sides of each blade, so orientation matters less than with area-specific patterns
Moderate blade curvature works reasonably well across anterior and posterior surfaces alike
Familiar shank angle means minimal adjustment period for anyone trained on the standard pattern
Sharp, defined tip doubles as a functional diagnostic instrument for checking a surface after debridement
Solid, one-piece stainless steel build with no soldered joints to fail over time
Because it’s a universal rather than area-specific shape, the NES-1705 trades some of the precision a Gracey or Nevi pattern offers for broader everyday usability — useful when a hygienist wants one dependable instrument for routine scaling rather than swapping between several specialized shapes mid-appointment. It autoclaves cleanly and holds a working edge through normal clinical use without excessive resharpening.
For dental schools teaching foundational scaling technique, or practices that want a straightforward workhorse curette everyone on staff already knows how to use, the 204 remains a sound, low-friction choice.
