4.0 MM
The NES-867 is a Bein pattern root elevator with a 4.0 mm tip, one of the most recognizable elevator designs used in general extraction work. The Bein pattern is known for its triangular cross-section blade, which tapers to a fine edge that wedges cleanly between the root surface and the surrounding bone.
That triangular geometry is what makes the Bein pattern so versatile. As the tip advances into the periodontal ligament space, the taper generates a wedging action that widens the space and loosens the tooth without requiring the operator to apply excessive rotational force. This is why Bein elevators show up so often as a first-line instrument before forceps are ever applied, particularly on teeth that have not yet been significantly mobilized.
Situations where clinicians reach for the NES-867 include:
Initial luxation before forceps extraction on single and multi-rooted teeth
Widening the periodontal ligament space on firmly seated teeth
General extractions where a versatile, non-specialized elevator is preferred
Working alongside more specialized patterns for difficult cases
Among dental root elevators, the Bein pattern tends to be the one clinicians default to simply because it performs reliably across such a broad range of extraction scenarios.
A 4.0 mm tip strikes a workable balance for everyday use, substantial enough for routine extractions without being too bulky for tighter interproximal spaces.
