The NES-988 is a Winter pattern root elevator, item code NES-988, built around the T-bar handle design that defines this elevator family. Among our dental root elevators, the Winter pattern stands apart because of how it transmits force. The cross-bar handle sits perpendicular to the shank, giving the operator a rotational grip instead of a straight push grip, which changes how force reaches the root.
This matters most when working on mandibular molars that have been sectioned or fractured at the furcation. Once the roots are separated, the T-handle lets the clinician apply a controlled twisting motion rather than relying on wrist strength alone, which helps loosen a root without forcing the surrounding bone.
Where this elevator earns its place in a surgical tray:
Elevating mesial or distal roots after molar sectioning
Managing retained or fractured root fragments in the posterior mandible
Situations where straight elevators lack the leverage needed for a stubborn root
Cases where rotational force is safer than axial pressure against thin buccal bone
The 11R designation reflects a specific blade orientation within the Winter series, matched to left or right-sided approach depending on the paired instrument in the set.
For clinics that regularly manage impacted or sectioned mandibular molars, the NES-988 fills a gap that straight elevators cannot. Add this instrument to your surgical kit.
