3 MM
The NES-879 is a Bein Straight elevator with a serrated tip, sized at 3 mm for situations where extra grip on the root surface matters as much as the wedging action of the blade itself. The straight Bein profile still delivers the familiar triangular taper, but the serrations along the working edge add texture that helps the tip bite into the root surface rather than sliding off it.
That extra bite becomes useful on roots that are wet with blood or saliva, where a smooth-tipped elevator can slip at the moment force is applied. The serrated edge gives the operator a bit more confidence that the tip will hold its position once seated, which matters most during the initial engagement before the ligament space has widened.
Situations where the serrated tip earns its place on the tray include:
Initial luxation on roots with slick or curved surfaces
Cases where a standard smooth-tipped elevator has slipped during engagement
Multi-rooted teeth needing a firmer initial hold before widening the socket
General extractions where added tip traction speeds up the early stages
Clinicians building out a full Bein set among dental root elevators often add the serrated version specifically as a backup for the moments when a smooth tip does not hold as expected.
That extra grip can be the difference between a clean first attempt and repeated re-seating of the instrument.
