The NES-759 is a Coupland gouge elevator, a pattern built on straightforward mechanics: a straight shank paired with a curved, gouge-shaped tip that wedges into the periodontal space and rotates a tooth loose through controlled leverage rather than sharp cutting action. Coupland elevators have held their place in extraction kits for generations precisely because that mechanism works across a wide range of situations without demanding a specialized approach.
The gouge shape does most of the work here. Rather than relying on a thin blade to slide along the root surface, the concave tip seats against the tooth and uses rotational force to widen the socket space gradually. That rotation-based technique tends to distribute pressure more evenly than a straight elevator pushed in one direction, which can reduce the risk of sudden, uncontrolled movement once resistance gives way.
