Description

Fig. 1R
Coupland elevators approach root elevation differently from most other patterns in a surgical kit. Rather than working into the periodontal ligament space with a tapered tip, the Coupland uses a broader, chisel-shaped blade to expand the socket walls and sever the ligament through a wedging action. The NES-716 is the right-sided variant of this pattern, with a working end angled to direct force toward the right, giving the clinician better mechanical advantage when approaching specific root surfaces or working from the right side of the arch.
What makes this instrument useful in day-to-day oral surgery is its versatility across different extraction scenarios. Socket expansion before forcep application reduces the risk of buccal plate fracture on dense or heavily corticated bone. The broad blade also distributes force across a wider surface area than a narrow-tipped elevator, which matters when working on roots that could fracture under concentrated point pressure.
The NES-716 is a reliable addition to any set of dental root elevator instruments and pairs naturally with the left-sided counterpart and straight version to cover the full range of posterior extraction access angles.
Clinicians typically reach for the right-angled Coupland when separating the mesial or distal root of a sectioned lower molar, when expanding a particularly resistant socket before forcep delivery, or when a straight-bladed instrument cannot generate useful directional force at the angle of approach. The right-offset geometry keeps the handle clear of adjacent teeth and soft tissue, improving both visibility and control during the procedure.
The instrument autoclaves without issue and maintains its blade geometry through repeated sterilization cycles. Order the NES-716 today.
