Mayo Straight – Gum Scissors

The Mayo Straight Scissor (NES-2686) is a classic, heavy-duty pattern available in three lengths, 14cm, 17cm, and 23cm, built for general tissue and suture cutting across a range of surgical field sizes. Among our maxillofacial surgery instruments, the Mayo pattern remains one of the most recognizable and dependable scissor designs, valued for its robust construction and straightforward cutting action.
Unlike finer, precision-focused scissors, the Mayo Straight is built to handle heavier cutting tasks, including thicker tissue and sturdier suture material, without flexing or losing its edge under repeated use. That durability makes it a reliable workhorse instrument rather than a specialty tool reserved for delicate work.
Having three length options under one pattern gives practitioners flexibility to match reach to the depth of the surgical field, from more contained access at 14cm to deeper or more extensive procedures at 23cm.
Its straight blade keeps the cutting line direct and predictable, well suited to general-purpose cutting where the tissue or material being cut runs in a relatively straight path.
Built from surgical-grade stainless steel, this scissor withstands the mechanical demands of heavier cutting work and repeated sterilization cycles, holding its strength and cutting precision over years of clinical use. For everyday, reliable cutting needs, the Mayo Straight remains a tray staple.
