5 MM
The NES-892 is a 5 mm Luxating Elevator with a curved blade, a pattern built around a fundamentally different mechanism than the Bein or Cryer designs. Among our dental root elevators, luxators are defined by a thin, sharp cutting edge that severs the periodontal ligament fibers directly rather than relying on wedging or rotational leverage to break the attachment.
That distinction changes the technique. Instead of applying force to lever the tooth out of the socket, the operator works the blade along the root surface in a slicing motion, cutting through ligament fibers as it advances apically. This approach tends to preserve more of the surrounding alveolar bone than techniques built around heavier leverage, which is part of why luxators are often reached for in cases where socket preservation matters for a future implant.
The curved blade on this instrument follows root curvature more naturally than a straight design, which helps maintain consistent contact with the periodontal ligament along the length of the root. Clinicians tend to use this pattern in situations such as:
Atraumatic extractions where preserving the socket architecture is a priority
Cases preceding implant placement, where bone preservation matters most
Teeth with curved roots that a straight blade would not track as cleanly
Initial ligament severance before switching to a traditional elevator for final delivery
Because the technique relies on a controlled slicing motion rather than force, a lighter touch tends to produce better results than pushing hard against the blade. For clinicians focused on minimally traumatic extraction protocols, the NES-892 fits a specific and increasingly common role in the surgical kit.
