The NES-992 belongs to the Winter pattern of root elevators, a design many clinicians reach for when a root tip needs to be teased free after sectioning rather than levered out in one motion. This particular instrument is the right-handed version of the pattern, built with the same narrow, triangular working end that defines the Winter series. That tip shape lets the blade slip into a tight interseptal or interradicular space and gain purchase against the root surface without needing much room to maneuver.
Clinicians who work with Winter elevators often use them on multi-rooted teeth where a root has already been separated and now needs to be teased upward, or on a mandibular molar where access is limited by adjacent bone. The pointed tip concentrates force at a single contact point, which gives the operator more control over where pressure lands and reduces the chance of the blade skating across the root surface.
