The NES-991 belongs to the Winter pattern, a design most clinicians recognize by its triangular blade cross section and sharply pointed working tip. This left orientation instrument is built to sit into narrow interproximal spaces where a broader blade would struggle to gain purchase, particularly around the mesial and distal aspects of mandibular molars. Within our line of root elevators, the Winter pattern remains one of the more requested designs for clinicians who work regularly in the posterior mandible.
The pointed tip lets the operator engage a narrow section of periodontal ligament space directly rather than distributing force across a wider contact area. This concentrated engagement is what allows controlled apical pressure to separate the ligament fibers with less lateral movement of the tooth, which in turn reduces stress on the surrounding alveolar bone. Because the instrument is offered in matched left and right orientations, clinicians can select the version that follows the natural curvature of the root and quadrant they are treating, rather than compensating with wrist angle.
This makes the NES-991 well suited to surgical extractions where access is tight, including cases involving retained roots or fractured fragments in the lower posterior segment. It also holds up well as a companion instrument alongside forceps, used to initiate mobility before final delivery of the tooth.
Built as a reusable stainless instrument for repeated autoclave cycles, the NES-991 is a practical addition for any clinician who regularly manages posterior extractions. Complete your extraction instrument set today.
