Description

Fig. 1
Bone recontouring after a periodontal flap is opened calls for a different category of tool than soft-tissue trimming, and the FEDI chisel family fills that gap. NES-1874, marked Fig. 1, is the narrowest blade in the set — the one surgeons reach for first when reshaping thin ridges of alveolar bone or smoothing sharp osseous edges left behind after debridement.
How it’s typically put to use: the flat, beveled edge is pressed against the bone surface at a shallow angle, then advanced with light, controlled taps or steady hand pressure to shave away small amounts of material. Because the blade is narrow, it concentrates force into a small contact area, which means less mallet effort is needed compared to a wider chisel doing the same job.
A few practical notes:
Fine edge suits detail work around root proximity and tight interdental bone
Pairs naturally with rongeurs and files already in an osseous surgery kit
Blade also works as a hand-held diagnostic instrument, letting a surgeon feel for sharp spicules before closing a flap
Comes with a hollow handle at Ø 8mm or Ø 9.5mm, or a solid handle at Ø 6mm
Machined from surgical stainless steel, NES-1874 holds a working edge through repeated bone contact and autoclaves without pitting. Suited to periodontists performing osseous recontouring, crown lengthening, and ridge preservation procedures where precision outweighs speed.
