Elevating the sinus membrane without tearing it is one of the more nerve-wracking parts of a lateral or crestal sinus lift, and that’s precisely the job the NES-1817 is shaped for. Marked Fig. 3 in the sinus lift set, it carries a curved, blunt-tipped working end designed to separate the delicate Schneiderian membrane from the surrounding bone in smooth, controlled movements rather than sharp probing motions that risk perforation.
The blue plasma coating isn’t just cosmetic — it reduces surface friction as the instrument slides along bone and membrane, and it holds up against the repeated cleaning and sterilization cycles a surgical set goes through without corroding or dulling in appearance. That coating also makes instruments in a graduated set easier to tell apart at a glance during a procedure where reaching for the wrong size costs time.
Clinicians often use the working tip early in the elevation sequence as a tactile diagnostic instrument, gauging how much resistance the membrane offers before committing to a fuller lift.
